In practice, however, the user experience remains rather disappointing. The model powering it, DeepSeek V3.1, offers a context window of 128,000 tokens (about 300,000 words), which is still lower than the market leaders. But that's only for the API. In the free version accessible to users through various applications, everything suggests that the context is significantly reduced. Memory is limited, and you often have to redirect the AI or remind it of certain elements to keep it from losing track if the conversation drags on. In terms of accuracy, DeepSeek also suffers from a real deficit. Answers are often shorter and less precise than those from ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, and the model hallucinates noticeably more than its American competitors. The "DeepThink" function, which activates an enhanced reasoning mode, significantly improves the chatbot's overall performance, especially in mathematics and programming. If you want to use DeepSeek as a writing assistant, you may also be disappointed. The writing quality is adequate but very formulaic, with recurring language tics that limit its creative value. Don't expect to use a text written by DeepSeek professionally, at the risk of losing your credibility. For brainstorming, general research, legal questions, or code (its real strong point), the tool can be useful. On the other hand, the lack of localized search in the user's language greatly reduces the freshness and relevance of the answers.
